The best radio station in the world
If you've checked my links page (bottom right of the blog), you know what I think of WFMU . I may be prejudiced because they carried a show of mine for a few years, but I listened before that, and I listen now. The DJ's are excellent, and the station itself is an institution unique in the world: it is actually listener sposored. Not "Supported by listeners like you" and by a big grant from the Whomever Foundation, or by "The following local merchants," but by the listeners.
You hear music and audio you'll hear nowhere else. Shows completely programmed by the DJ's, live performances by bands that will never get near a mainstream station, a once-a-year Record Fair that's the second-largest in the US, and thousands upon thousands of hours of archived shows, so you can sit back and time-shift from New Zealand, Belgium, or wherever you're located. Cruise on over to their site and listen to the stream in real time, and then pony up during the once-a-year-for-2-weeks-only Marathon (and get all kinds of great swag and prizes for dat azz).
